Summer red
An infusion traditionally reputed to be rich in nutrients and antioxidants, ideally “solar” (infused in the sun's warmth). A touch of honey softens it.
Composition
- 3 measuresraspberry leaves
- 2 measuresred clover flowers
- 1/2 measuredried orange peel
- 1/2 measurerosehips
- 1/2 measurehibiscus flowers
- optionalhoney
A “measure” is a unit of proportion (e.g. a tablespoon) to adjust to the volume you want. Underlined ingredients link to their plant entry.
Preparation
Long infusion
In a heatproof jar, cover with boiling water and leave to infuse for at least 3 to 4 h, or even overnight for a stronger preparation. Drunk during the day, iced or gently warmed.
Precautions
- Red clover: phyto-oestrogens, caution in case of hormone-dependent cancer, pregnancy or hormone treatment.
- Hibiscus: may lower blood pressure; caution in case of low blood pressure and pregnancy. Raspberry: to be supervised during pregnancy.
- Solar infusion: use clean water and a clean container, and drink within the day.
These preparations belong to herbal tradition: they aim for comfort and support, do not “cure” anything and do not replace medical advice. Ask a doctor, pharmacist or herbalist before prolonged use, if under treatment, pregnant or breastfeeding, or for a child.
